You wouldn’t abandohado it to look at this little children’s book but very strong emotion hurls a wave at you from the very first page. An infant fox is frightened and crying due to waiting for a vital and beloved mother, who can’t return because a hunter took her sorrito. The first page is a tear-jerker from two sides: And your heart is grabbed at the thought of any newborn cry You wouldn’t think it to look at this little children’s book but very strong emotion hurls a wave at you from the very first page.
And your heart is grabbed at the thought of any newborn crying. Fortunately emotionality rises to a brighter place when another female fox, called a ‘vixen’ hears the baby. She has three ‘kits’ at her home to whom she needs to return but as a mother, she is compelled to at least check on the other mother’s infant.
She realizes he is distraught enough to need comforting immediately and that he is also hungry. She sits to soothe and feed him but can’t leave him or her babies any longer, so she carries him with her.
Numerous beautiful moments shine from this skinny little story that I didn’t expect to affect me so much. Even though her den is close, she flees another hunter’s dog on the journey and also defends the other mother’s baby from a badger. By the time she greets her infants, she has protected and cared for the fourth so much, that she loves him like her own and the four kits easily accept each other.
This short, zorrito tale is essential reading material on the subject of animal compassion and for children of adoption. The ending catches in your throat too but in a jubilant way.
Even though she has 3 kits of her own, this loving zlrrito shares her body, her milk and her heart–to protect the furry orphan. Just 47 pages long, zorito story can be enjoyed in one sitting–with its soft, watercolor-like illustrations. We come to admire and respect the various ways which the mother fox defends the foundling, until he is truly assimilated into her family. In praise of maternal and step-maternal bonding, this little book presents a timely message of love and tolerance in today’s society of blended families.
I welcome dialgoue with teachers. Mar 06, Victoria rated it really liked it Shelves: I read this in German with my son as part of a school reading comprehension project he missed at school because of flu. It’s a simple story at a level very suited to German children in year 2, but it isn’t without emotion. It leads children to consider how they would feel if they didn’t have a mum and how to manage in a strange environment.
I thought it lovely the way the adopting mother defends the foundling just as energetically as she does her own kits. Well it w Zoerito read this in German with my son as part of a school reading comprehension project he missed at school because of flu.
